Director: Anurag Singh
Starring: Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan, and others

The buzz around Border 2, the much-awaited sequel to JP Dutta’s iconic 1997 war drama Border, has been growing louder with every update. With a stellar cast led by Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Varun Dhawan, the film has been making waves for both its star power and compelling storyline.

In a recent interview, Diljit Dosanjh revealed some exciting details about his role, which is sure to add another layer of emotional depth to this war epic. In Border 2, Diljit will portray the legendary Indian Air Force officer, Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, a real-life hero who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honor.

Diljit Dosanjh as Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon

Diljit’s character in Border 2 is inspired by the incredible bravery of Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, who played a pivotal role during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. On December 14, 1971, when the Srinagar Air Base was attacked by six Pakistan Air Force jets, Sekhon displayed exceptional courage by single-handedly defending the base, despite being vastly outnumbered. His actions led to his posthumous recognition with the Param Vir Chakra.

In a podcast, Diljit shared that he is deeply honored to portray such a legendary figure. The actor revealed that he would begin preparations for the role by March-end, with an intense 20-day shooting schedule planned. The film’s talkie portions will be shot at the Bombay Flying Club in Juhu, while wide-angle shots will be filmed in Kashmir, where the Folland Gnat fighter aircraft replicas will be used to recreate historical scenes.

Who Was Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon?

Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon’s bravery during the 1971 Indo-Pak War made him a national hero. His heroic defense of the Srinagar Air Base against the Pakistan Air Force, despite being outnumbered and lacking sufficient resources, has been etched in the annals of Indian military history. His actions that day were instrumental in preventing further damage to the base and were recognized by the Indian government with the Param Vir Chakra, which was awarded posthumously after his martyrdom.

Behind the Scenes of Border 2

Directed by Anurag Singh, known for his work in Kesari, Border 2 promises to bring a blend of high-octane action and poignant moments to the big screen. The film will not only depict the events of the 1971 war but will also delve into the lives of officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, showcasing their bravery and camaraderie during times of conflict.

The film’s shoot has already begun, with action-packed sequences involving the lead cast set to be filmed in Jammu and Kashmir. These real-life locations will add an authentic touch to the war drama. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, ensuring a high level of production value.

The Wait for Border 2

As we eagerly wait for the release of Border 2 in 2026, the film promises to be a powerful tribute to the heroes of the 1971 war, with Diljit Dosanjh’s portrayal of Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon being one of its highlights. The real-life hero’s story is sure to move audiences, as Diljit brings his unique style and dedication to the role.
