About the event
Kids and Parents Gardening Nutrition Workshop
In celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day, our nonprofit organization is excited to announce the upcoming Kids and Parents Gardening nutrition workshop. Join us on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm at the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center for a day filled with learning, fun, and good food.
Workshop Details
- What: A horticulture workshop focusing on basic gardening skills for children and their parents or guardians.
- Activities: The workshop will cover container gardening, planting vegetables, and understanding the life cycle of plants.
- Benefits: Learning to grow our own food not only provides fresh, nutrient-rich produce at a low cost but also promotes healthier eating habits by encouraging the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Flavorful Cooking: Discover how herbs and spices can enhance the taste of your dishes while being better for heart health compared to salt and sugar.
Partnership with Lowes Home Improvement
Thanks to our generous partners at Lowes Home Improvement, all workshop participants will receive seeds, fruit and vegetable plants, herbs, and spice plants to kickstart their gardening journey. These plants are yours to keep, and representatives from Lowes will be on-site to share valuable gardening tips with both children and adults.
Catered Lunch and Plant Sale
- Lunch: Enjoy a complimentary catered lunch from Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant at 12 noon. Options include chicken dishes and vegetarian meals to cater to various dietary preferences.
- Plant Sale: Browse through a selection of perennials and other indoor and outdoor plants available for purchase to beautify your garden. Perennials are a popular choice due to their low maintenance and ability to return year after year.
Supporting Our Nutrition Program
Proceeds from the plant sale will go towards funding our nutrition program, ensuring that it remains accessible and free for all children. Your participation directly contributes to the well-being of our community’s youth.
