About the event
Celestial Soiree at the Cathedral of the Incarnation
Experience a night of celestial wonder at the historic Cathedral of the Incarnation, as it hosts its first gala event in the grand nave. Join prominent figures like the Bishop of Long Island, the Dean of Long Island, and Cathedral Staff for an extraordinary evening under the moonlight. This exclusive gathering marks the launch of the Museum of the Moon installation, themed “Moon as Sacred Mirror.”
Exquisite Artistry in the Moon’s Glow
The centerpiece of the evening is the Museum of the Moon, a captivating creation by renowned UK artist Luke Jerram. Suspended majestically above the Cathedral’s nave, this awe-inspiring moon sculpture boasts a 20-foot diameter and showcases intricate NASA imagery of the lunar surface at a remarkable 120dpi resolution. Each centimeter of this internally lit masterpiece represents 6km of the moon’s enchanting terrain, casting a cosmic glow over the dance floor below.
An Evening of Elegance and Entertainment
The festivities commence at 7pm with a delightful cocktail reception in the Cathedral’s undercroft, setting the stage for an evening of fine dining and dancing beneath the moonlit sky at 8pm. Indulge in culinary delights prepared by the esteemed Prime Catering of Garden City, accompanied by the enchanting melodies of the Manhattan Rhythm Machine. The dress code calls for cocktail attire, with the option to elevate the glamour with black-tie elegance.
Supporting Heritage and Culture
Beyond the celestial spectacle, this gala serves a noble cause. All proceeds from the event will contribute to the Stewart Historic Buildings Preservation Fund, dedicated to the conservation of Garden City’s architectural treasures linked to the legacy of founder Alexander Turney Stewart on the Cathedral Close.
