About the Composers
Fanny Mendelssohn (1805-1847)
German composer and pianist known for her exceptional contributions to the early Romantic era. Her extensive repertoire includes a piano trio, a piano quartet, orchestral overtures, cantatas, piano pieces, and lieder. Despite her remarkable piano skills, she seldom performed publicly. Her works, like the Piano Trio in D minor Op. 11, have been lauded for their unique and profound qualities.
Rebecca Clarke (1886-1979)
Renowned British-American composer and violist, celebrated for her chamber music featuring the viola. Recognized as a prominent figure in British classical music between the two World Wars, Clarke’s compositions are esteemed for their artistic depth and technical brilliance. Born in England and later settled in the United States, she left a lasting impact on the music world.
