Indian Community in Afghanistan

While Afghanistan may not be the first country that comes to mind when thinking about Indian diaspora destinations, it holds a long and complex history of Indo-Afghan ties. From the days of ancient trade along the Silk Route to modern diplomatic and humanitarian partnerships, Indians have played varied roles in Afghan society.A small yet significant number of Indian professionals—especially those in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and NGOs—have lived and worked in cities like Kabul, Kandahar, and Herat. Despite political instability in recent decades, India’s cultural, linguistic, and educational influence remains visible through Bollywood films, Indian food, and language training centers. Though the Indian community in Afghanistan is now limited due to security concerns, those who remain continue to foster people-to-people connections.
