In a star-studded event at the Expo Hall, World Trade Centre, 58 top chess players from 16 nations will compete in the Masters Section of the Global Chess Festival. The tournament, running from June 10 to 18, features players like Grandmasters, International Masters, FIDE Masters, and Women International Masters.
The flagship Masters Section, part of the Rs 60 lakh prize money festival by the Indian Chess School, boasts an average rating of 2359. With a classical 9-Round Swiss League format, players will vie for rating points, title norms, and a total prize fund of Rs 35 lakh. The top seed is GM Iniyan Pa from Tamil Nadu with a rating of 2573.
India leads with 32 players, joined by representatives from countries like Belarus, Egypt, Russia, and the United States. The tournament also includes the 360 One Global Challengers B Category and the Junior Masters event, attracting ambitious players and young talents. The Junior Masters, known for nurturing future chess stars, offers a substantial prize fund and a direct qualification to the 2027 Masters Tournament for the champion.
