The India-Oman Business-to-Business (B2B) Meet at the Sheraton Oman Hotel, organized by the Embassy of India, took place on Monday, showcasing opportunities in the agriculture and food sectors. The event featured 27 Indian companies and over 30 Omani companies, emphasizing direct interactions between exporters and importers.
Dr. Sudhanshu, Secretary of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), led the Indian delegation. APEDA, established in 1985, aims to promote agricultural and processed food products. Dr. Sudhanshu highlighted the new Halal certification initiative by India’s Ministry of Commerce, designed to meet global halal standards.
The meeting also saw the launch of a Market Study Report on the Food, Agriculture, and Marine Sectors by Dr. Masoud bin Sulaiman al Azri from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources. Guests of Honour included notable figures from Oman’s business and export sectors, such as Hussain Hassan Ali Abdulhusin and Lubna al Harthi.
Amit Narang, Indian Ambassador to Oman, expressed confidence that the study would enhance understanding of the Omani market, offering Indian exporters new opportunities. He noted the significant growth in bilateral trade, which surged from $5.4 million in 2020-21 to $12.3 billion in 2022-23, largely driven by agricultural exports including grains, dairy, and poultry.
The delegation emphasized India’s diverse product range and potential for further expansion into the GCC market, underlining the country’s commitment to quality and innovation.
