Indian Missions Across the U.S. Celebrate India’s 76th Republic Day with Pride and Unity

On January 26, 2025, the Indian diaspora across the United States gathered to mark the 76th Republic Day of India, celebrating the nation’s democratic spirit, cultural heritage, and achievements. Indian missions in cities like New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Houston played host to grand events, drawing enthusiastic participation from community members and dignitaries.

In New York, the celebration at the Consulate General saw over 300 attendees. Consul General Binaya Srikanta Pradhan unfurled the Indian flag, sparking patriotic fervor. The occasion included a special recognition ceremony for notable figures from fields such as science, technology, sports, arts, and public service. Honorees included Manoj Chourasia, a New Hampshire state representative, and Abhimanyu Mishra, the youngest chess Grandmaster, among others.

Chicago’s Republic Day celebrations were equally remarkable. Consul General Somnath Ghosh led the flag-hoisting ceremony and shared the President of India’s message. Cultural performances from the local Indian community added to the festivities. Additionally, the top scorers of the “Bharat Ko Janiye” quiz were honored for their knowledge of India’s history and culture.

In Washington, D.C., Indian Ambassador Vinay Kwatra presided over the celebrations at India House, where the tricolor flag was raised with great pride. The ambassador also relayed the President’s address to the nation, followed by joyful participation from the Indian community.

Houston’s celebration was organized by the India Culture Center, a longstanding community organization. Consul Prashant Sona represented the Consulate at this vibrant event, which emphasized cultural exchange and the preservation of Indian traditions.

These celebrations were not just a way to mark India’s Republic Day but also an opportunity to recognize the significant contributions of the Indian diaspora in the U.S. From political leaders to entrepreneurs, educators, and artists, the event highlighted the diverse ways in which the community enriches both Indian and American societies.
