Investor Proposes 30,000 Community Colleges to Transform India’s Workforce

In a visionary move to reshape India’s educational and economic landscape, investor Himanshu Shah has proposed the establishment of 20,000 to 30,000 community colleges within the next three years. Reducing Dependence on Imports

Shah also highlighted the economic necessity of reducing India’s dependence on foreign imports, particularly from China. By fostering domestic production and self-sufficiency, he believes India can strengthen its economic standing globally. “We are living in an era where economic resilience is key, and we must focus on creating industries that support our own market,” he remarked.

Driving Innovation Through R&D Investments

Another critical aspect of Shah’s vision is increasing corporate investment in research and development (R&D). He pointed out that Indian businesses often hesitate to invest in R&D due to high return expectations. To counter this, he proposed a mandate requiring companies with over $10 million in revenue to allocate at least 2% toward innovation. “This will create an immediate shift, encouraging groundbreaking ideas and technological advancements,” he asserted.

Despite India’s government allocating over $500 billion to social welfare programs, Shah expressed concerns over the effectiveness of these initiatives. He noted that many rural regions still lack essential infrastructure, and funds often fail to reach those in need. According to him, a restructured approach focusing on efficient fund allocation could lead to meaningful progress in poverty alleviation and development.
