Seventeen-year-old Avalokit Singh from Jaipur won a bronze medal at the Hong Kong Junior Under-19 Open Squash Championship 2024, held at the Hong Kong Squash Center. This prestigious event saw top junior players from over 15 countries, including the USA, Canada, China, Japan, and Malaysia, compete in a week-long tournament.

Avalokit achieved a notable victory against fourth seed Ryu Jeonguk of Korea, who is ranked eighth in Asia. Despite losing the first set, Avalokit rallied to win 3-1 with scores of 9-11, 12-10, 13-11, and 11-7. In the semi-final, Avalokit fought hard but ultimately lost to Korea’s Lee Jong Hyeok in a close match, 2-3, with the final set ending 9-11.

Trained by former international squash player Surbhi Mishra, Avalokit also defeated Hong Kong’s third seed Wong Wing Kuen, ranked sixth in Asia, in straight sets. This victory adds to his impressive track record, including a strong performance at the World Junior Squash Championships in Houston, USA.

Avalokit is a student at Delhi Public School Jaipur and has consistently demonstrated his skill and determination in squash. His success at the Hong Kong Junior Open underscores his potential and dedication to the sport.
