Hollywood icon Meryl Streep revealed that she recorded numerous versions for her cameo in ‘Project Hail Mary.’ The 76-year-old actress provided her voice in an uncredited role for Ryan Gosling’s latest sci-fi movie. The film follows the story of Dr. Ryland Grace, a teacher-turned-astronaut who wakes up on a spaceship with amnesia and befriends an intelligent alien entity named Rocky.
Co-director Chris Miller praised Streep’s enthusiasm during the recording process. He mentioned that Streep was playful and offered a variety of takes for the role. The idea of having Streep onboard came about spontaneously, adding an element of fun to the project.
Ryan Lord, another collaborator, shared that they aimed to create voices that could be used in a text-to-speech translator for the film. Streep’s involvement was facilitated by producer Amy Pascal, who had a prior working relationship with the acclaimed actress. The filmmakers expressed their delight at Streep’s performance, highlighting her professionalism and talent.
In addition to Streep’s contributions, the movie also featured Ryan Gosling interacting with a physical puppet instead of a CGI character. The team behind ‘Project Hail Mary’ engaged in playful voice experiments on set, aiming to create a lively and engaging atmosphere during filming.
