Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi praised West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for deciding to remove the “Dham” title from the Digha Jagannath Temple in East Midnapore district. CM Majhi emphasized the significance of Lord Shree Jagannath as a spiritual icon and a symbol of cultural identity worldwide. He criticized the previous West Bengal government for misusing the term “Jagannath Dham” for the Digha project, which he believed disregarded the sanctity of Shreekhetra Puri and offended the religious sentiments of Odias and devotees globally.
Majhi disclosed that he had written to the new West Bengal CM, expressing his objection to the temple being called a “Dham” and urging for a correction to this cultural misrepresentation. He expressed satisfaction that the current West Bengal government, under CM Suvendu Adhikari, had acknowledged the issue’s sensitivity and reversed the previous administration’s decision. The Digha temple will now be known as the “Sri Sri Jagannath Mandir Cultural Center,” a move that was appreciated by the people of Odisha for upholding Lord Jagannath’s cultural sanctity and fostering unity between the two states.
The Odisha Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s dedication to preserving Odia heritage and upholding the honor of Lord Jagannath. In response to Majhi’s concerns and the sentiments of millions of Odia individuals, West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari announced the removal of the “Dham” title from the Digha temple.
