Pradeep Karuturi Joins USIBC as Policy Director, Focusing on Energy, Environment, and Infrastructure

In a strategic move to strengthen the U.S.-India partnership, the US India Business Council (USIBC) recently appointed Pradeep Karuturi as its Policy Director, overseeing critical areas such as energy, environment, and infrastructure. USIBC, which consists of over 200 leading U.S. and Indian companies, aims to further the bilateral ties between the two nations in key sectors like investment, trade, and policy development.

Karuturi, with over a decade of expertise in public policy, particularly in energy and power sectors, is poised to lead initiatives that will shape India’s evolving energy landscape. His career has been marked by a strong focus on fostering partnerships at both the central and state levels, enabling collaboration that drives meaningful change. His previous work includes developing policies that support electric mobility, critical minerals, and the resilience of supply chains — all areas poised for significant growth in the coming years.

An engineer by training, Karuturi’s academic background includes a Postgraduate Diploma in Urban Environment Management and Law from the prestigious National Law University in Delhi. This combination of technical and legal expertise equips him with the skills to address complex challenges in the global energy sector.

Speaking about his new role, Karuturi expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s an honor to be part of an organization that plays a pivotal role in strengthening the U.S.-India partnership across investment, trade, and policy. I look forward to engaging with stakeholders across both countries to build pathways for impactful change.”

Karuturi’s extensive experience spans multiple domains. He is recognized for his work in promoting sustainability, electric vehicles, and climate action. In 2016, he embarked on an enlightening expedition to Antarctica as a youth ambassador for the 2041 Foundation, deepening his understanding of climate change. His commitment to sustainable development was further demonstrated in 2017 when he launched community centers in South India, which have benefited over 1,000 indigenous tribal communities through programs focused on education, healthcare, and livelihood support.

His leadership roles also include serving as a consultant and project head for the state government of Andhra Pradesh, where he helped provide educational technology to over a million children across 2,500 public schools. His efforts resulted in fundraising campaigns that garnered more than $2 million, further enhancing educational opportunities for disadvantaged students.

In addition to his work in education and sustainability, Karuturi has been influential in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. While working with the prominent startup Bounce, he contributed to shaping policies that facilitated the expansion of EV services in multiple cities across southern India. His advocacy for sustainable mobility in Bangalore, supported by his involvement with the Global Shapers Community (an initiative of the World Economic Forum), underscores his dedication to environmental stewardship.

Karuturi’s leadership in the OMI Foundation (formerly Ola Mobility Institute) highlights his ongoing commitment to electric mobility and policy research. His role at the foundation involves collaborating with various government bodies and stakeholders to advance policies that promote the adoption of electric vehicles and address the environmental challenges posed by traditional transportation systems.

As the new Policy Director at USIBC, Karuturi is expected to play a central role in aligning the organization’s strategic objectives with the U.S.-India partnership. His wealth of experience in policy advocacy and community development positions him as a key figure in driving the collaborative efforts necessary to tackle the pressing challenges of energy, environment, and infrastructure in the two countries.

Through his leadership, USIBC aims to foster deeper cooperation and innovation between the U.S. and India, ensuring that both nations benefit from sustainable, long-term solutions in these critical sectors.
