On America’s Independence Day, NASA’s Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams delivered a heartfelt message from the International Space Station (ISS) to the US embassy in Delhi. She highlighted the strong partnership between India and the United States in space exploration and expressed optimism about their collaborative future.

Williams, currently stranded on the ISS due to issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, emphasized the success of India-US space cooperation. “India and the US have had much success working together to explore the stars. Our future together could not be brighter,” she stated in her special video message.

Despite the challenges, Williams remains positive about ongoing and future joint missions. She noted the upcoming launch of NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) from India, a significant collaboration between NASA and ISRO aimed at providing crucial data on Earth’s ecosystems, natural hazards, and climate changes.

Williams also expressed her enthusiasm for the growing ties in astronaut training, mentioning ISRO’s collaboration with NASA on a project to send an Indian astronaut to space. “After returning to Earth, we look forward to meeting Indian astronauts training at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Our partnership with India and the countries around the world will help expand humanity’s reach for the sky,” she added.

Joining Williams in the message were fellow astronauts Tracy C Dyson and Jeanette J Epps, who also underscored the importance of international cooperation in space exploration.
