Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.T. Prabhakar announced the withdrawal of disciplinary actions against 21 AIADMK legislators who supported the TVK-led government during a recent trust vote. The trust vote, held on May 13, saw the TVK government securing a comfortable victory with 144 votes in favor, 22 against, and five abstentions.
The main opposition party, DMK, staged a walkout during the proceedings. Following the trust vote, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami sought the disqualification of 25 MLAs under anti-defection provisions. However, after accepting explanations and apologies from 21 legislators, the Speaker decided to drop further proceedings against them.
Speaker Prabhakar mentioned that the AIADMK leadership did not accept the explanations of four legislators. Disciplinary actions have been initiated against these four MLAs, with the specific nature of the actions to be determined later. This development resolves the disqualification threat for most rebel AIADMK legislators but leaves the future uncertain for the remaining four members.
