The Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Bombay and Delhi have secured their highest-ever positions in the QS World University Rankings 2025. IIT Bombay surged 31 places to 118th globally, while IIT Delhi climbed to 150th, up from 197th last year.
IIT Bombay scored a total of 56.3 out of 100 in the QS rankings, released on June 4, 2024, marking its first entry into the top 125. The institute excelled in employer reputation with a score of 86.0, ranking 63rd worldwide in this category. It also performed well in citations per faculty (79.1), academic reputation (58.5), and employment outcomes (64.5), though it scored low in international students (1.3).
IIT Delhi celebrated its leap to the 150th position, a significant improvement of 47 places. Prof. Vivek Buwa, head of the rankings cell and dean of planning at IIT Delhi, credited this achievement to the dedicated efforts of the faculty, students, and staff. He expressed optimism about further improvements, citing the institute’s strong focus on high-quality research, innovation, and technology development.
Both IITs have been recognized among the top Indian institutions in several QS ranking parameters, with IIT Delhi particularly noted for its strengths in academic reputation, employer reputation, employment outcomes, and international research collaboration.
