Over 20 Indian students from the University of East London recently showcased their innovative prowess at a hackathon organized by the Tamil Nadu Centre of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing Centre. The event, supported by the state government, aimed to bridge academia-industry gaps and potentially lead to internship opportunities for participants.

The students, a blend of undergraduates and postgraduates specializing in engineering, tackled diverse themes such as smart agriculture, urban mobility, waste management, sustainability, and prosthetics and bionics. Divided into seven multidisciplinary teams, each comprising both male and female students, they had three days to develop and present their projects following the assignment of topics four days prior.

Gaurav Malik, director of education and experience at the University of East London, highlighted the rigorous preparation undertaken by the teams, emphasizing the need for a robust proof of concept evaluated by industry experts.

The initiative not only aimed to foster practical skills among students but also aimed to connect them with potential internship opportunities facilitated through collaborations with industries. Mr. Malik expressed optimism about the prospects of placing a significant number of participants in internships, underscoring the event’s practical outcomes and industry relevance.
