The Cotton Council International (CCI) hosted a media roundtable to bolster strategic partnerships between India and the U.S. in the textile sector, spotlighting U.S. cotton as the preferred choice for Indian spinners. This initiative precedes the “COTTON USA: Weaving Threads of Unity between the U.S. Cotton and Indian Textile Industry” event in New Delhi, where deeper discussions on this partnership will take place.
Bruce Atherley, CCI Executive Director, emphasized the significant growth potential in India’s textile industry, projected to reach $350 billion by 2025. He highlighted the substantial opportunities for enhanced cooperation between the U.S. and Indian textile sectors, aiming to drive sustainable practices and economic growth in both countries.
The upcoming COTTON USA event will include meetings with U.S. Embassy personnel and interactions with top Indian textile manufacturers, the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol, Supima, and other global industry leaders. Discussions will focus on mutual interests and strategies for future collaboration, featuring a high-level panel on “Celebrating Women’s Influence in the Fashion and Textile Industry.”
India’s textile export growth, recorded at 6.91% year-on-year in March, aims for $100 billion by 2030. Achieving this target will require robust international trade partnerships and collaborative efforts. Today’s discussions outlined a roadmap for an efficient, profitable U.S.-India partnership, empowering Indian spinners, textile mills, and manufacturers.
Marc Lewkowitz, President and CEO of Supima, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership prospects, noting the rising global demand for premium SUPIMA cotton. Peush Narang, CCI’s representative for India and Sri Lanka, emphasized that using U.S. cotton helps Indian manufacturers meet global quality standards and enhances their competitive edge with full supply chain traceability and technical support from the COTTON USA program.
