In a significant move to enhance bilateral relations, British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on August 8. The discussion focused on expanding economic alliances between India and Britain. Cameron, an Oxford graduate and former CEO of the UK National Cyber Security Centre, emphasized the growing partnership. CM Yogi shared a photo of the meeting on his X handle, highlighting the collaboration.
Uttar Pradesh is offering numerous opportunities to UK investors in sectors such as leather, textiles, healthcare, solar energy, and food processing. Companies like AB Mauri have chosen UP for significant investments, with a new yeast manufacturing plant in Pilibhit costing Rs 1,100 crore. The state government has allotted land and approved incentives under the Industrial Investment and Employment Promotion Policy 2022.
Genus Breeding India Pvt. Ltd. has also established a unit in Lucknow with an investment of Rs 12 crore, leveraging the state’s biotech ecosystem. The defense sector is another area of interest for UK investors. UK company Webley & Scott (Sial Manufacturers Pvt. Ltd) has set up an air gun manufacturing plant in Sandila Phase-2 Industrial Area, operational from June 2020. Additionally, FMCG company Unilever and chemical company Johnson Matthey have successful operations in Uttar Pradesh.
This meeting underscores the strengthening bond between India and the UK, fostering mutual growth and cooperation.
