Carnegie Mellon University has appointed Ramayya Krishnan, the Dean of the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, to lead its new AI Measurement Science & Engineering Cooperative Research Center (AIMSEC). This center, established with a $6 million grant from the Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), aims to advance the research and testing of AI systems.
Krishnan, a renowned expert in AI and policy, will spearhead efforts to develop tools, metrics, and best practices that ensure AI technologies are safe, transparent, and reliable. The center’s work will span sectors like education, finance, transportation, and energy, focusing on measurement science and responsible AI deployment. Carnegie Mellon, a pioneer in AI research, is looking to partner with NIST in this initiative, which will also support the development of new AI talent and standards.
