At just 16, Anahat Singh has established herself as one of India’s brightest sporting talents. Her recent victory at the British Junior Open in Birmingham has not only elevated her career but also made her a source of national pride. Competing in the highly competitive U17 category, Anahat defeated some of the toughest players in the world, including a thrilling five-set final against Egypt’s Malika Elkaraksy. This remarkable achievement marked Anahat’s third British Junior Open title, having won previously in the U11 and U15 categories.

The final match was a true test of Anahat’s resilience and mental strength. After trailing twice, she fought back fiercely to win the match 3-2 (4-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-5, 11-3). This victory was especially sweet, as it came after a heartbreaking loss in the U17 final in 2024. Known for their dominant presence in squash, Egyptian players like Elkaraksy are renowned for their aggressive play and impressive shot-making. However, Anahat displayed her exceptional ability to adapt, strategize, and keep her composure under pressure.

Anahat’s journey to this title is the culmination of years of dedication. She first made her mark on the global stage by winning the U11 category in 2019. She followed that success with another triumph in 2023 in the U15 division. Her impressive rise in the world of squash hasn’t gone unnoticed, as she has now cemented her place among the top juniors in the sport.

Beyond the British Junior Open, Anahat’s career is already filled with notable accomplishments. She became the youngest Indian to compete at the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and has earned bronze medals at both the Asian Games and Asian Championships. With a current ranking of 82 in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) world rankings, her trajectory in the sport is both inspiring and promising.

Looking ahead, Anahat has her sights set on even greater challenges, including the prestigious World Junior Championships, the ultimate competition for U19 players. With her composure, skill, and determination, it’s clear that she is well on her way to becoming a global squash icon. The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will mark the debut of squash, and Anahat is expected to be one of India’s key representatives on the world stage.

As she enters the new season, Anahat Singh’s victory at the British Junior Open is a sign of bigger things to come. With her relentless pursuit of excellence and her unwavering passion for the game, she is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with in the world of squash. Her success is not only a personal achievement but also a proud moment for India, a country that continues to produce exceptional talent in the world of sports.
