In a historic and heartwarming recognition, the Georgia State Senate has unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution declaring March 10 as “Dr. Indrakrishnan Day”. The resolution honors Dr. Indran Indrakrishnan, a highly respected Indian-American gastroenterologist, for his outstanding contributions to healthcare, cancer awareness, and community service across Georgia.

A Landmark Resolution Honoring Service Beyond Medicine
The resolution was introduced and championed by Senator Sheikh Rahman (D-Lawrenceville), the first South Asian ever elected to the Georgia State Senate. The motion received widespread support from both Democratic and Republican lawmakers, symbolizing the bipartisan admiration for Dr. Indrakrishnan’s decades of public service.

Senator Rahman praised Dr. Indrakrishnan as a “distinguished and passionate physician” who has gone above and beyond in his efforts to serve the people of Georgia. The resolution applauds his tireless advocacy for cancer prevention, early detection, and access to quality healthcare, especially in underserved communities.

Who Is Dr. Indran Indrakrishnan?
Dr. Indrakrishnan is a board-certified gastroenterologist and has been a practicing physician in Georgia for over 30 years. He has also served as a former member of the Georgia Board for Physician Workforce, appointed by then-Governor Nathan Deal.

In addition to his medical achievements, Dr. Indrakrishnan is renowned for his dedication to cancer awareness campaigns, particularly his work with the Georgia Colorectal Cancer Roundtable. He has been instrumental in shaping policies to improve cancer screening rates and patient education across the state.

As an Indian-American and an immigrant from Sri Lanka, Dr. Indrakrishnan has remained actively involved in promoting diversity, inclusion, and cross-cultural understanding. He has often served as a bridge between medical communities and ethnic minority groups.

March 10 – A Day to Celebrate Healthcare Heroes
By declaring March 10 as Dr. Indrakrishnan Day, the Georgia Senate not only honors one individual but also highlights the importance of medical professionals who dedicate their lives to saving others. It sends a powerful message of inclusivity, recognizing the contributions of immigrants and people of color in shaping America’s healthcare landscape.

The resolution reflects Georgia’s commitment to honoring those who make a lasting difference in public health and civic life. Dr. Indrakrishnan expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the recognition, stating that the honor belongs to all who work toward building healthier communities.
