Indian badminton icon P.V. Sindhu and her husband, Datta Sai Venkata, are embarking on a new venture to establish a state-of-the-art badminton academy. Their shared vision aims to nurture emerging talent and promote the sport across India.

A Shared Vision for Badminton

Sindhu and Datta’s journey together began in late 2022 when they reconnected during a flight. Their mutual passion for sports, especially badminton, laid the foundation for their relationship. Datta, an ardent sports enthusiast, has seamlessly integrated into the badminton community, offering fresh perspectives and unwavering support to Sindhu. Reflecting on their bond, Sindhu remarked, “He is very passionate about every sport he follows. Since he married a badminton player, he’s deeply into badminton now, which is good.”

The Academy Initiative

The couple’s aspiration to launch a badminton academy stems from Sindhu’s desire to give back to the sport that has significantly shaped her life. This initiative aims to provide world-class training facilities, mentorship, and resources to budding badminton players, fostering the next generation of champions. Datta emphasized the importance of this endeavor, stating, “Building an academy is her dream.”

Balancing Personal and Professional Life

Navigating the complexities of marriage while maintaining a professional sports career can be challenging. However, Sindhu and Datta have found harmony in their shared goals. Post the Paris Olympics, Sindhu sought stability in her personal life to enhance her professional performance. Datta has since taken on strategic roles in Team PVS, allowing Sindhu to concentrate on her game. He noted, “Having stability around her helps take her mind off difficult decisions. She needs to focus on her performance.”

Looking Ahead

With the establishment of their badminton academy, Sindhu and Datta aim to create a nurturing environment for young athletes. Their combined expertise and passion are set to make a lasting impact on India’s badminton landscape, inspiring many to pursue the sport professionally
