Rekindling a Dying Craft

In a small town in Punjab, the ancient echoes of hammer striking copper are coming back to life. The Thathera community, once known across India for its exceptional brass and copper metalwork, had seen its art pushed to the brink of extinction. This traditional craft, practiced for centuries, struggled to survive under the weight of industrialization and dwindling demand.

That is, until a young team of entrepreneurs launched an initiative to revive the craft. With a vision to restore heritage while creating sustainable livelihoods, P-TAL (Punjabi Thathera Art Legacy) was born — a social enterprise focused on empowering artisans and reintroducing the beauty of handmade copperware to the world.

Empowering a Community, One Artisan at a Time

What began as a mission to preserve culture has grown into a lifeline for over 80 artisan families. P-TAL collaborates directly with craftsmen, ensuring they receive fair wages and steady employment — something the community had long been deprived of.

Today, where coppersmiths once struggled to make ends meet, many now earn between ₹25,000 and ₹1 lakh per month. The ripple effect goes beyond income — it’s about restoring pride, reviving identity, and revitalizing entire communities.

Craft Meets Contemporary

P-TAL has seamlessly merged heritage with modern utility. By reimagining traditional products into contemporary, functional designs — such as sleek copper water dispensers, brass teacups, and cocktail glasses — the brand has brought the ancient into the everyday.

These handcrafted items are more than just utensils; they are storytelling pieces, each bearing the unique imprint of its maker. By focusing on design innovation without compromising authenticity, P-TAL has made heritage desirable again.

A Brand on the Rise

The momentum behind P-TAL is undeniable. Since its humble beginnings, the brand has grown from ₹21 lakh in its first year to nearly ₹4 crore in annual revenue. With increased visibility and demand, it has caught the attention of investors and global audiences alike.

Recently, the company secured a ₹1 crore investment for a 3.2% equity stake, valuing it at ₹31.25 crore. This recognition has further fueled its mission to scale while staying rooted in purpose.

Looking Ahead: Preserving the Past, Shaping the Future

P-TAL’s journey is more than a business story — it’s a movement to protect and promote Indian craftsmanship. As it continues to expand across borders and into new product lines, its core remains unchanged: to empower artisans, preserve heritage, and celebrate the beauty of handmade.

In reviving the art of the Thatheras, P-TAL isn’t just saving a craft — it’s rewriting its future.
