Two exceptional tenor saxophonists, Jo Fooks and Al Nicholls, will grace our June Jazz Night with their mesmerizing performances. This dynamic duo promises an enchanting evening filled with captivating mainstream jazz and vibrant swing melodies.
Jo Fooks: A Journey of Jazz Excellence
Hailing from Edinburgh, Jo Fooks’ musical journey began with being crowned ‘Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year.’ Her talent propelled her to the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and later to a scholarship at Berklee School of Music in the USA. Jo’s musical prowess caught the attention of the renowned British trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton, inviting her to join his band. Together, they embarked on a captivating musical journey, enchanting audiences across the UK in theaters, concert halls, and festivals.

Al Nicholls: A Maestro of Melodies
Renowned tenor saxophonist, composer, and arranger, Al Nicholls, has left an indelible mark on the jazz scene. Having honed his craft in swing and jump-jive bands like the legendary Big Town Playboys and Ray Gelato’s Giants, Al’s musical genius is unparalleled. Notably, with his band, Blue Harlem, he played a pivotal role in launching the career of the international singing sensation, Imelda May. Al’s music exudes joy and rhythm, earning him a place of honor at iconic London venues like Ronnie Scott’s and The 100 Club.
Legendary broadcaster Michael Parkinson aptly describes Al’s music as, “…it’s happy music that makes you want to dance!”
