Brooklyn Nine Nine Indian Remake Reportedly in Early Development

The beloved American sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine may soon be getting an Indian makeover. According to recent entertainment industry reports, the show is being considered for a localized version with discussions already underway. While nothing has been confirmed yet, early buzz around the project has piqued fans’ curiosity—especially with actor Kunal Kemmu reportedly being considered to take on the iconic role of Jake Peralta, originally played by Andy Samberg.

Kunal Kemmu Tipped to Lead as Jake Peralta

Kunal Kemmu, known for his impeccable comedic timing in films like Go Goa Gone and Lootcase, is being speculated as the top contender to reprise Samberg’s lovable-yet-immature detective Jake Peralta. Sources claim that Kemmu’s name has come up during internal discussions among the show’s creative team. However, he has not been officially approached yet.

The same report clarifies that while the actor is a favorite among the team for the role, casting is still in the preliminary stages and may not begin for a few more months. The makers are also currently exploring platforms for the show’s release.

Pilot Episode Already Written, Characters Adapted to Indian Setting

Adding to the excitement, it’s reported that a pilot episode for the Indian adaptation has already been penned. The creative team has begun adapting the show’s diverse and quirky ensemble cast to an Indian setting, ensuring the humor, cultural references, and situational dynamics resonate with Indian audiences.

If all goes according to plan, the show could be ready for release within a year. However, as of now, the project remains in its nascent stage, and many crucial decisions—including casting and platform partnerships—are yet to be finalized.

Why Brooklyn Nine Nine Is a Cult Favorite

The original Brooklyn Nine-Nine aired for eight seasons and became a fan-favorite across the globe. Set in the fictional 99th precinct of the NYPD in Brooklyn, the series follows a team of detectives navigating hilarious personal and professional challenges while solving crimes.

Andy Samberg’s portrayal of Jake Peralta, a talented yet childishly eccentric detective, is central to the show’s charm. Other standout characters include the stoic Captain Holt (Andre Braugher), the tough-as-nails Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz), and the ever-serious Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), among others.

Fans continue to revisit the series on streaming platforms like Netflix, keeping its legacy alive through countless memes, GIFs, and reruns.

What an Indian Version Could Look Like

While adapting American shows for Indian audiences can be tricky, the unique workplace comedy setup of Brooklyn Nine-Nine lends itself well to cultural reimagination. If done right, the Indian version could blend the structure of the original with local flavors—from city-specific quirks to relatable social dynamics and a revamped precinct atmosphere.

The show’s essence—comedy rooted in camaraderie, identity, and justice—has universal appeal. With the right cast and writing team, the Indian version could strike gold with audiences who loved the original as well as new viewers looking for a fresh comedy series.

The Brooklyn Nine Nine Indian Remake is currently in the conceptual stage, with exciting rumors pointing to Kunal Kemmu potentially stepping into the shoes of Jake Peralta. The script for the pilot episode is reportedly complete, with localized characters already being fleshed out. While it’s still early days, this project could be a major hit if it successfully retains the heart of the original while speaking to Indian sensibilities.

Stay tuned as more updates unfold over the coming months.
