In a triumphant resolution, law enforcement authorities have facilitated the return of an ancestral property in Shenoy Nagar to its rightful owner, an NRI who is the granddaughter of a former dean of Govt Stanley Medical College and Hospital.

The property, nestled on two grounds of land, had been illegally occupied for a staggering three decades before police intervened. According to officials, the house originally belonged to Dr. Victor, a distinguished figure who once held the position of dean at Govt Stanley Medical College and Hospital.

Following his retirement, Dr. Victor relocated to California in the United States, entrusting the care of his home to a tenant named Shantakumar. However, complications arose when Dr. Victor’s daughter visited Chennai in the late 1990s and faced resistance from Shantakumar’s family.

In response, the property was legally transferred into the name of Dr. Victor’s daughter, Deepa. Upon a recent visit to Chennai, Deepa discovered that the first floor of the house had been unlawfully occupied by a relative of Shantakumar, identified as Dinesh.

Taking swift action, Deepa approached City Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore, armed with irrefutable documentation to support her claim. With due diligence, the police swiftly intervened, prompting Dinesh to surrender the keys and vacate the premises.

While some tenants in the outhouse have requested additional time to vacate, authorities have accommodated their request within the confines of the legal process. Shedding light on the legal intricacies of the case, a senior police officer revealed that Dinesh’s occupation of the first floor constituted a breach of the original tenancy agreement, warranting legal action under Section 448 of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to house trespass.

In a statement to the press, Deepa expressed her gratitude towards the Greater Chennai City Police for their instrumental role in reclaiming her family’s ancestral property, marking a significant victory in a longstanding legal battle.
