On June 3, Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal revealed her Community Project Funding (CPF) requests, aimed at securing up to $56 million for 15 critical projects in the Seattle area as part of the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) appropriations bills.
“Delivering for the Seattle area is the most important part of my job, and I am so proud to be working to bring home this money for innovative and critical projects across our community,” Jayapal stated.
The funding targets a range of initiatives designed to enhance public safety, improve transit infrastructure, bolster climate resilience, and upgrade essential services, making the community a better place to live.
Key Project Highlights:
– Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority’s Stadium Pocket Track Reconfiguration: $3 million
– City of Lake Forest Park’s Lakefront Park Community Center: $5 million
– City of Seattle’s Lake City Community Center and Affordable Housing Redevelopment: $5 million
– Seattle Waterfront Elliott Bay Seawall Project, Phase 2: $10 million
– City of Shoreline’s N 175th Street Corridor Improvements Project (Phase 1): $3 million
– City of Shoreline’s Trail Along the Rail: $4 million
– City of Seattle Department of Transportation’s Third Avenue Revitalization: $3.75 million
– King County Violent Crime Victim Services and Court Backlog Reduction: $933,000
– Northwest Seaport Alliance’s Terminal 18 On-Dock Rail Restoration and Capacity Expansion: $2.63 million
– Port of Seattle’s Pier 86 Grain Terminal Switcher Locomotive Replacement: $1.5 million
– Port of Seattle’s Seattle Waterfront Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment: $800,000
– University of Washington’s AI Research Infrastructure: $4.5 million
– University of Washington’s Cold Lab: $5 million
– Evaluating Shoreline Restoration Effectiveness, Vashon and Maury Island: $281,000
– Seattle Ferry Terminal Shoreside Electrification: $7 million
Jayapal previously secured $7,566,000 for affordable housing and emergency shelters in the FY24 budget, resulting in nearly 300 housing units and emergency shelter for 200 individuals. However, during the FY25 budget process, Republicans removed non-profits from eligibility for certain funds, impacting multiple housing projects in WA-07.
“While Republicans in Congress continue to lead through chaos, I will be standing up for you, working to get this across the finish line,” Jayapal added.
