Bollywood’s most anticipated romantic drama of 2026 has finally arrived, and Ek Din is every bit the emotional, visually stunning experience audiences were hoping for. Starring the magnetic duo of Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan, this Hindi remake of the beloved Thai film One Day brings a fresh, tender story of love, memory, and the beauty of fleeting moments to Indian screens. Whether you’re a hopeless romantic or simply someone who appreciates good cinema, Ek Din is a film that speaks straight to the heart.

Ek Din is a beautifully crafted romantic drama about an IT geek who spends one unforgettable day with the woman he loves — only for her memory of it to be wiped away. Backed by stunning visuals, earnest performances, and a bittersweet emotional core, this is one of 2026’s most heartfelt theatrical releases.

Plot Summary

After suffering a heartbreak and a snow accident during a work offsite in Hokkaido, Japan, Meera (Sai Pallavi) is diagnosed with Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) — a rare condition that causes her to lose all short-term memories at the end of each day. Her quiet, nerdy IT colleague Dinesh (Junaid Khan), who has been secretly in love with her, finds himself stranded alongside her in Japan when the rest of their team returns to India. What follows is one perfect, golden day — a day of laughter, discovery, and unexpected connection. But when morning comes, will Meera remember what they shared? And will Dinesh find a way to make her feel what she can no longer recall?

Performances

Sai Pallavi delivers yet another effortless, radiant performance as Meera. She brings her signature warmth and naturalistic charm to the role, making every scene feel lived-in and genuine. Whether she’s navigating the confusion of her condition or sharing a quiet moment with Dinesh, Pallavi holds the screen with grace and emotional depth. She is simply luminous.

Junaid Khan is a revelation in Ek Din. As Dinesh, the socially awkward IT support guy with a heart of gold, Khan finds the perfect balance of vulnerability and quiet charisma. His comic timing, especially when rattling off nerdy facts or stumbling through conversations, is endearing rather than gimmicky. This is a breakout performance that firmly establishes him as a leading man to watch.

Kunal Kapoor makes the most of his limited screen time as Nakul, Meera’s married boss and former love interest. Poised and quietly compelling, he lends solid weight to a role that could easily have been one-dimensional.

Kavin Dave and Pragati Mishra round out the supporting cast with ease and warmth, adding texture to the world Dinesh and Meera inhabit.

Technical Craft

Cinematographer Manoj Lobo is arguably the unsung hero of Ek Din. His lens transforms Hokkaido’s snow-capped landscapes and frozen beaches into a dreamlike, ethereal canvas that perfectly mirrors the film’s transient emotional tone. Every frame looks like a memory worth keeping — which makes the film’s central conceit all the more poignant.

The writing by Sneha Desai and Spandan Mishra does justice to the original Thai source material while grounding it in a deeply relatable Indian sensibility. The second act, in particular, unfolds with the ease and rhythm of a genuine friendship slowly blossoming into something more. Director Sunil Pandey handles the emotional beats with restraint and sincerity, allowing the performances and visuals to do the heavy lifting.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan share beautifully natural chemistry
  • Manoj Lobo’s breathtaking cinematography elevates every scene
  • The second and third acts deliver genuine emotional payoff
  • The unconventional premise (TGA-driven romance) feels fresh and memorable
  • Hokkaido’s snow-covered setting adds a fairy-tale quality to the love story

Weaknesses

  • The first act takes time to find its footing and can feel slow to start
  • A few plot conveniences (Dinesh saving a child, wishes magically coming true) stretch believability
  • The pacing dips in the second half before the third act picks up

Final Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ — 4.5 / 5

Ek Din is a rare kind of romantic film — one that earns its emotions honestly, through character, chemistry, and craft rather than melodrama. Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan make for one of the most compelling on-screen pairs in recent Bollywood memory, and Manoj Lobo’s camera ensures every frame is a feast for the eyes. Minor pacing issues and a few clichés aside, this is a film that lingers in your heart long after the credits roll. A must-watch for anyone who believes in the magic of a single perfect day.
