Streaming Platform: JioHotstar
Release Date: May 2, 2025
Genre: Family Drama, Political Thriller
Language: Hindi

Power, politics, and betrayal take center stage in Kull – The Legacy of Raisingghs, a JioHotstar original that dives deep into the internal warfare of a royal family. Featuring Amol Parashar, Nimrat Kaur, and Ridhi Dogra in lead roles, this eight-episode political family drama offers a gritty portrait of what happens when loyalty is paper-thin and the thirst for control overshadows blood ties.

Plot Overview

Set in the fictional royal state of Bikaner, Kull opens with the shocking murder of King Chandra Pratap Raisinggh. The crown becomes both a symbol of legacy and a curse for his three children—each of whom is uniquely flawed and dangerously ambitious. As the murder mystery unravels, a deadlier game unfolds behind palace doors.

Abhimanyu (Amol Parashar), the youngest heir with a self-destructive streak, unexpectedly inherits the throne despite his chaotic and toxic behavior. His sister, Indrani (Nimrat Kaur), a composed yet emotionally burdened Chief Minister, tries to hold the family—and the political empire—together. Meanwhile, Kavya (Ridhi Dogra), the sensible and well-educated sibling, seeks financial stability amid the chaos, adding a more grounded layer to the sibling triangle.

Performances

Amol Parashar stands out with his volatile portrayal of Abhimanyu—the reckless prince who teeters between tragic and terrifying. Nimrat Kaur adds emotional complexity to Indrani, whose maternal instincts clash with her political ambitions. Ridhi Dogra brings a subtle strength to Kavya, representing the modern voice in this decaying legacy.

Gaurav Arora as Brij, the adopted son and a silent threat to the throne, adds intrigue, especially as tensions rise between him and Abhimanyu. Each character feels carved from different emotional textures, making their dynamics intense and unpredictable.

Direction & Cinematography

Director Sahir Raza gives Kull a regal yet haunting visual appeal. From sprawling palaces to shadowy hallways, the cinematography amplifies the paranoia and suspense that envelop the narrative. The slow-burn storytelling style may not be for everyone, but it allows characters to develop layers and secrets to unfold with impact.

Highs and Lows

What Works:

  • Strong performances by a well-cast ensemble
  • Intricate sibling dynamics and political tension
  • Visually rich and mood-driven cinematography
  • Themes of betrayal, legacy, and ambition are explored thoughtfully

What Doesn’t:

  • Pacing issues in the middle episodes
  • Some subplots feel underdeveloped or stretched
  • At times, the melodrama veers into soap-opera territory

Final Verdict

Kull – The Legacy of Raisingghs is a gripping, albeit uneven, tale of a royal family crumbling under the weight of its legacy. Think of it as a desi Game of Thrones blended with a political soap opera. While it falters occasionally, the dark narrative, rich performances, and Shakespearean themes of power and downfall make it worth the watch.

Final Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ 3.5/5 stars

Whether you’re in it for the palace intrigue or the twisted family politics, Kull offers a royal binge fest packed with secrets, power plays, and emotional explosions.
