Plot Summary
The story unfolds over four days of Diwali celebrations at the Lucknow home of family matriarch Nani. At the centre is Jai, a young widower still coming to terms with the accidental death of his wife Tara. He has distanced himself from his family, but the festive season draws him back home.
Things get complicated when his sister Sana reveals that she has secretly married Karam, a divorcee with a child from a previous relationship. The news disrupts the celebrations. It brings out generational differences, family prejudices and long-buried resentments, and the family is left to decide what really matters when everyone is under one roof.
Performances
Rohini Hattangadi as Nani: The veteran actor is the heart of the film. She gives Nani an affectionate, lived-in quality that makes the Lucknow home feel like a real family’s home. Her presence anchors the whole ensemble.
Ritwik Bhowmik as Jai: Bhowmik brings sincerity and quiet emotion to a grieving widower. His restraint makes Jai’s pain easy to feel and gives the film its emotional centre.
Dalai as Sana: Dalai is convincing and confident as Sana. She plays the character’s independence with spontaneity and spirit, and she is a joy to watch.
Ayesha Raza Mishra as Jai’s mother: Ayesha Raza stands out as the caring but controlling mother. She captures a parent’s struggle to accept choices beyond her influence, and many viewers will recognise her.
Vikram Bakshi as Karam: Bakshi makes Karam a likeable, grounded presence. He handles the awkwardness of being the outsider in a big family with charm.
Kanikka Kapur as Tara: Kapur leaves a gentle, lasting impression. Tara’s presence stays in the story, and it is a big part of what drives Jai’s emotional journey.
Gaurav Sharma: Sharma is dependable and brings steady, natural support to the family canvas.
Ayuushman Ghai: Ghai’s easy camaraderie adds to the sibling bond, which is one of the film’s most engaging elements.
Shivika Rishi: Rishi adds a fresh, youthful perspective to the household and balances the older generation well.
Abhay Kaul and Tarana Raja: Both add colour and authenticity to the large ensemble and help make the reunion feel full and lively.
