Our review

Nayanthara returns to the world of Mookuthi Amman in a bigger, bolder sequel from director Sundar C. This time the story swaps satire for scale: a cop haunted by recurring nightmares, a mysterious village called Mylanchi, and a battle between goddesses and dark forces. The film brings together Nayanthara, Regina Cassandra, Duniya Vijay, Urvashi, Yogi Babu and Garuda Ram, and has plenty of star power. Here is our full Mookuthi Amman 2 review.

Mookuthi Amman 2: Maha Sakthi is a large-canvas fantasy that trades the original’s satire for goddesses, villains and supernatural conflict. Nayanthara anchors it with a commanding, otherworldly presence, and the supporting cast gives it everything. Sundar C packs in action, devotion, comedy and spectacle, and the film is at its best when it leans into its mythic scale. It is an ambitious festival-season watch for fans of Tamil fantasy cinema.

Plot Summary

Shakti (Nayanthara) is a cop who keeps having nightmares. She sees a warrior on horseback and a village named Mylanchi. Determined to find the cause, she travels there. Past and present begin to merge, and she finds herself at the centre of a supernatural battle involving goddesses and powerful adversaries.

Performances

Nayanthara: She has an otherworldly screen presence that suits a goddess role. As Shakti, she carries the film with grace and authority, and the divine moments land because of her.

Regina Cassandra: She plays an antagonist with total commitment and gives the role her all. Her energy and intensity add real menace to the conflict.

Duniya Vijay: He brings a strong, imposing presence as one of the film’s adversaries. His screen presence keeps the stakes high.

Garuda Ram: He joins the line-up of antagonists and brings weight and menace to his scenes. He adds to the film’s villainous ensemble.

Urvashi: She plays Nayanthara’s mother and handles both the comic relief and the emotional beats with ease. Her warmth and timing remain a highlight, as they were in the first film.

Yogi Babu: He brings his trademark comic energy and plenty of screen time. The extended wedding-eve comedy stretch is built entirely around his character.
