New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) Taiwanese electronics manufacturing major Foxconn’s facility in Bengaluru is nearly ready for launch, with commercial iPhone shipments expected to begin as early as June, Karnataka Minister for Commerce and Industries, MB Patil, said on Saturday.The country is now achieving “Make in India” at a global scale, as reports suggest that tech giant Apple may shift the entire assembly of iPhones meant for the US to India by next year.According to Patil, “Foxconn’s unit at Devanahalli ITIR is nearly ready for launch, with commercial iPhone shipments expected to begin as early as June”.In a post on X social media platform, he said that this is not just a manufacturing milestone.“It marks a strategic shift. With rising geopolitical and tariff pressures, India is fast becoming Apple’s preferred production hub. This development strengthens Karnataka’s position in global manufacturing and opens the door to greater foreign investment — without compromising stakeholder interests,” said the state minister.Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that for the June quarter, a majority of iPhones sold in the US will be made in India.“As a Kannadiga, this is a proud moment. Gwalior, May 17 (IANS) Union Minister for Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, said on Saturday that India is at the forefront of the rapidly advancing global telecom revolution under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He asserted that in the days to come, India will play a leading role in tailoring rules for 6G technology. The minister made this assertion during an interaction with media persons in his home district in Gwalior on Saturday. The minister was briefing the press about India’s achievements in telecommunication on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on May 17. Lauding the reach of 5G in the country, he noted that the rollout of 5G in the country has been one of the fastest in the world, and will be able to reach 82 per cent of the population in 22 months. “The rollout of 5G technology has taken place, and in just 22 months, the information revolution has reached 82 per cent of the population of 99 per cent of districts in the country. India will take the lead in shaping the upcoming 6G technology regulations,” Scindia added. He also stated that new services are being introduced in the postal system. The Minister informed that India Post is one of the largest logistics and distribution networks in the world, having 1.64 lakh post offices and 2.5 lakh postal workers. “In 2008, I designed the logo for the Department of Posts, with the slogan ‘Postal Service is Public Service.’ Every postal worker operates with this spirit. New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) The government on Saturday said it is developing a digital platform to enable the electronic submission of documents in trade remedy investigations.The platform is expected to go live soon, offering enhanced transparency, efficiency, and ease of access for all stakeholders.Since 1995, India has initiated over 1,200 trade remedy investigations. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has played a central role in this process by conducting investigations swiftly, often concluding within a year, to ensure timely relief for affected industries.Recent interventions have protected domestic sectors including solar energy and advanced materials, such as solar cells and copper wire rods, from unfairly priced imports and subsidised goods.The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) commemorated its 8th Foundation Day here, celebrating seven years of dedicated service in protecting Indian industry from unfair trade practices and sudden surges in imports.On this occasion, the Director General of DGTR applauded the commitment and tireless efforts of the organisation’s officers and staff in upholding the integrity of India’s trade remedy ecosystem.“Through safeguard duties and quantitative restrictions, DGTR has also responded to sudden import surges, for products such as palm oil and metallurgical coke, helping stabilise markets and preserve industrial competitiveness. Its proactive approach has been particularly crucial for manufacturing sectors vulnerable to volatile global trade dynamics,” according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.To further support equitable access, DGTR launched a dedicated Helpdesk in 2019, aimed at assisting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The partnership would open significant opportunities for clean energy startups to scale technologies that support the country’s long-term net-zero objectives,” he stated.Under the two-year partnership, both organisations aim to boost innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship in the clean energy and manufacturing sectors.The initiative will support early-stage climate-tech startups by helping them access funding, mentorship, pilot projects, and market connections. New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) The Government-e-Marketplace (GeM) has empowered 1,85,408 women-led micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and 31,005 DPIIT-recognised startups, while redefining public procurement through transparency, efficiency and inclusion, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, said on Saturday.In the last financial year (FY25), the GeM order volume reached 72,36,651 with total order value of Rs 543,019 crore.Established in 2016, GeM provides government buyers with an end-to-end digital platform to carry out public procurement at cost-effective rates.“Wishing @GeM_India on its 8th Incorporation Day.
