At least 15 individuals sustained injuries in a road mishap on National Highway 30 close to Rigra Bridge in Maihar, Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred when a speeding trailer collided with a stationary tractor-trolley parked on the roadside due to running out of fuel. Public outcry ensued over the delayed arrival of the local police at the scene, causing distress among the affected families and bystanders.
The injured, all hailing from Beldara village, were on their way back from a ‘Barho’ ceremony when the accident occurred. The collision was so forceful that some occupants were thrown into the air upon impact. The tractor-trolley, carrying multiple individuals, was involved in the accident.
Subsequent to the crash, chaos erupted at the location, resulting in a significant traffic congestion on NH-30. Emergency services were activated following the commotion, with the Highway Patrolling Team swiftly transporting the injured to nearby medical facilities. Most of the victims were taken to Civil Hospitals in Maihar and Amarpatan, while two critically wounded individuals were referred to the District Hospital in Satna for advanced medical care, as per police officials.
Those admitted to Amarpatan Civil Hospital, including Sankhibai Saket (50), Ajay Bunkar (17), Pradeep Saket (24), and Santosh Saket (50), are receiving treatment. Meanwhile, at Amarpatan Civil Hospital, relatives of patients caused a disturbance when a ‘108’ ambulance failed to arrive promptly. Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the precise cause of the accident, focusing on factors such as speeding and the presence of the stationary vehicle on the highway. Police have filed a case and are interrogating the trailer driver, who is now in custody.
