The Special Court for MLAs and MPs in Bengaluru has remanded 26 individuals to judicial custody in connection with the Congress shootout case. Among those remanded is Gurucharan Singh, the private gunman of Satish Reddy, an aide of Congress MLA Nara Bharat Reddy facing murder charges. The accused, including 11 BJP workers and 10 Congress workers, were brought from Ballari by the Karnataka Police and presented before the court.
Accused Gurucharan Singh, wearing a mask, appeared in court along with other individuals. Notably, the police have detained nine gunmen, including private gunmen of Satish Reddy and government gunmen of various MLAs. The investigation is ongoing, with police discovering a 9 mm bullet at the residence of BJP MLA Janardhana Reddy, where clashes between BJP and Congress workers led to a fatal shootout.
Furthermore, police have found additional bullets at the scene and have verified the residence of Gurucharan Singh in Ballari. In a suo motu case, Janardhana Reddy and Somashekara Reddy have been named as Accused No. 1 and Accused No. 2, respectively. The police have taken a total of 45 individuals into custody for questioning, with 26 arrests made in connection to the violence.
In response to the incident, BJP MLA Gali Janardhana Reddy has requested ‘Z’ category security for himself and his family, urging action against MLA Bharat Reddy and Satish Reddy. He has also called for accountability of police officers. Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara has hinted at the possibility of transferring the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
