The police in Jharkhand’s Pakur district apprehended advocate Joel Murmu for allegedly sexually exploiting a law student and using the recorded incident to blackmail her. The victim, who sought legal guidance from the accused, was reportedly assaulted under the guise of legal tutoring.
Authorities revealed that the accused coerced the victim into his influence, subjected her to mental harassment and sexual abuse for about seven months, and threatened her with the circulation of the compromising video if she sought help. The victim’s husband discovered the exploitation, leading to a confrontation with Murmu that turned physical, prompting police intervention.
Following the victim’s complaint, the police invoked relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Murmu and remanded him to judicial custody. An expedited investigation is underway to gather evidence and ensure justice for the victim, with a medical examination already conducted.
