Afghanistan’s Minister of Economy, Qari Din Mohammad Hanif revealed that more than 27,000 Afghan families in nine provinces have been displaced due to attacks by Pakistan’s military. Hanif, in a meeting with UN agencies and various organizations, highlighted Pakistan’s recent hostile actions against Afghanistan. The affected families are facing shortages of basic necessities like food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare.
Hanif emphasized the challenges faced by the displaced families and commended the Taliban for their efforts to address economic and livelihood issues. However, he called on UN agencies and partner organizations to provide humanitarian aid to those affected. He condemned the use of heavy weaponry in residential areas, leading to civilian casualties and the displacement of hundreds of families, terming it a serious violation of humanitarian norms and Islamic principles.
During a meeting organized by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Economy, Hanif stressed the urgent need for emergency assistance for internally displaced persons affected by recent bombardments. The gathering, titled ‘Coordination on Mobilizing Emergency Assistance from United Nations Agencies and National and International Non-Governmental Organizations for Internally Displaced Persons Affected by Recent Bombardments,’ was attended by representatives from various domestic and international organizations.
UNICEF’s head in Afghanistan, Tajuddin Oyewale, underscored the importance of seeking peaceful solutions between the two nations. He highlighted the infrastructure damage, including impacts on health facilities, caused by the recent hostilities. UNICEF expressed its commitment to aiding displaced individuals in Afghanistan and hoped for facilitation from Afghan authorities to ensure effective aid delivery to remote areas.
Tensions between Kabul and Islamabad have escalated significantly in recent months due to Pakistani airstrikes and artillery fire, resulting in numerous casualties in war-torn Afghanistan. A recent incident on March 29 saw one person killed and 16 others injured following rocket and heavy weapon attacks by Pakistani forces on residential areas in Kunar province, near Asadabad and surrounding homes.
