Afghan security forces in western Ghor province have successfully taken down two secret heroin processing labs and eliminated over 6,000 kg of illegal drugs. The Ministry of Interior Affairs disclosed this achievement in a recent announcement. Counter-narcotics units conducted targeted operations on the province’s outskirts, destroying the labs and confiscating 6,140 kg of precursor substances crucial for heroin production.
Authorities in Afghanistan have escalated their efforts to combat narcotics trafficking and manufacturing on a national scale. They have committed to ongoing operations aimed at eradicating poppy cultivation and heroin production throughout the country. In a separate incident on February 24, the provincial police office reported the arrest of two drug smugglers in Takhar province, northern Afghanistan. The authorities seized 41 kg of illicit drugs from the suspects, who were apprehended while attempting to transport 29 kg of opium poppy and 12 kg of hashish out of the province on February 23.
Moreover, on February 3, police in Farah province, western Afghanistan, detained two drug smugglers and seized 75 kilograms of narcotics. Acting on intelligence, security forces conducted a raid in Farah Rod district, capturing the suspects and confiscating 75 kg of raw opium. An assault rifle was also recovered during the operation. Continuing the crackdown, on February 1, police intercepted a vehicle in Herat province, western Afghanistan, seizing 170 kg of illegal drugs. Two alleged drug smugglers were arrested after the discovery of hidden compartments containing opium and hashish in the car.
The arrested individuals will undergo preliminary interrogation before being handed over to judicial authorities. The police emphasized their commitment to preventing the production and trafficking of illegal drugs within the province, underscoring their zero-tolerance approach to such activities.
