Afghan security forces have dismantled three secret heroin processing labs and seized a significant amount of illegal drugs in Farah and Helmand provinces. The Ministry of Interior Affairs revealed that counter-narcotics units conducted targeted operations in these provinces, destroying the labs and recovering substances used in heroin production. In a separate effort to combat drug addiction, 172 drug users in Kabul have been rounded up and transferred to a rehabilitation center for medical assistance.
Afghan forces have carried out 10,599 operations in 2025, confiscating 2,356 tons of illicit drugs and shutting down 517 clandestine drug processing facilities. In a recent incident on December 21, 2025, Afghan counter-narcotics police destroyed a drug processing lab and arrested a suspect in Laghman province. Acting on a tip-off, the police uncovered a drug processing facility in Mehtarlam district on December 20, seizing and destroying a large quantity of materials and equipment used for heroin production.
On November 14, 2025, police in Takhar province arrested a suspected drug smuggler and seized illicit narcotics. The suspect was apprehended while trying to transport crystal methamphetamine and other chemicals for heroin production to Taluqan, the provincial capital. The suspect is under custody for further investigation. In another operation on November 9, Afghan counter-narcotics forces confiscated 170 kg of opium poppy and arrested two suspected smugglers in Nimroz province during a targeted operation along the Zaranj-Delaram highway.
