Ahmedabad’s Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghavi, highlighted the city’s evolution into the ‘Sports City of India’ during the 77th Republic Day celebrations. Sanghavi emphasized the city’s growing sports infrastructure and readiness to host major international sporting competitions.
He mentioned significant projects like the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave and the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, developed to global standards for various sports. Ahmedabad aims to host prestigious events like the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and potentially the 2036 Olympic Games, solidifying its place on the global sports stage.
As part of promoting diverse sports, Sanghavi inaugurated a pickleball court, emphasizing the importance of inclusive sports culture and youth participation. He linked sports development to empowering the youth, noting Gujarat’s shift towards leadership and innovation among its young population.
The Republic Day celebrations showcased physical fitness and discipline through rifle drills, police displays, yoga routines, and cultural performances. Sanghavi highlighted Ahmedabad’s overall growth in infrastructure, connectivity, and urban development, supporting its emergence as a prominent sports destination.
The event concluded with the felicitation of personnel for their exceptional service, reinforcing the city’s commitment to discipline and excellence in line with its sporting aspirations.
