Gujarat’s Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has completed a record 8.45 lakh metric tons of road work in the current financial year, covering all seven city zones and road project areas. This effort is part of the city’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2030, focusing on improving urban mobility and traffic management.
From April 1, 2025, to January 26, 2026, AMC has undertaken extensive road development projects on major roads, connecting streets, and internal city roads. This comprehensive work has strengthened the city’s transport network and significantly enhanced traffic flow. Notably, this marks the first time such large-scale road work has been simultaneously executed across all seven zones by the corporation.
The distribution of completed work across zones includes: Central Zone – 30,000 metric tons, East Zone – 1 lakh metric tons, North Zone – 74,000 metric tons, South Zone – 86,000 metric tons, West Zone – 78,000 metric tons, South-West Zone – 44,000 metric tons, and North-West Zone – 1.35 lakh metric tons. Additionally, the Road Project Department has contributed 2.51 lakh metric tons, bringing the total to 8.45 lakh metric tons.
Over the past five years, AMC has consistently increased its road development efforts, with 2021–22 seeing 5.51 lakh metric tons completed, followed by 7.45 lakh metric tons in 2022–23, 7.77 lakh metric tons in 2023–24, and 7.60 lakh metric tons in 2024–25. The work in the current financial year is ongoing across multiple zones, with an anticipated total output of around 9.50 lakh metric tons by March 31, 2026.
Chairman of the Standing Committee, Devang Dani, expressed pride in the corporation’s achievement, emphasizing a focus on road quality, drainage systems, and pipelines. The corporation aims to enhance infrastructure and plans to increase the budget to ensure continued smooth operations. Officials highlighted the importance of the expanded road network in efficiently managing visitors, athletes, and logistics vehicles during international events like the Commonwealth Games and Olympics in 2036.
By completing extensive road construction projects, AMC aims to improve the city’s daily commuting facilities and long-term preparedness for international events, addressing the evolving infrastructure needs of the city.
