The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) presented its Draft Budget for 2026-27, focusing on infrastructure, mobility, sustainability, and sports facilities for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The total outlay amounts to Rs 17,018 crore, with revenue expenditure estimated at Rs 7,150 crore and capital expenditure at Rs 9,868 crore. Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani emphasized that no new taxes were proposed, as a two percent annual tax increment was already included in the budget two years ago.
Urban transport and road infrastructure are key areas of investment in the proposed budget. The AMC plans to allocate Rs 1,000 crore for elevated corridors connecting various areas. Additionally, the budget includes provisions for railway overbridges, flyovers, and the renovation of Subhash Bridge, among other projects, with significant allocations for corridor development and road expansion.
The budget also emphasizes public transport expansion, with proposals to introduce 3,000 electric buses and establish multimodal transport hubs. Funds have been set aside for adaptive traffic control systems, smart bus shelters, and the development of a Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority. In the environment sector, allocations cover water supply projects, flood mitigation, renewable energy initiatives, and climate resilience efforts.
Investments in sports and social infrastructure are a priority, with substantial allocations for sports city development and the construction of new sports complexes, gyms, swimming pools, and playgrounds. The social sector sees earmarked funds for health centers, fire and emergency services, housing projects, education, and welfare initiatives. The budget also includes allocations for the Sabarmati Riverfront development, cultural infrastructure, and recreational projects aimed at enhancing the city’s public spaces and amenities.
Officials highlight that the proposed budget aims to address Ahmedabad’s urban needs while enhancing public infrastructure, recreational areas, and civic amenities citywide.
