Ahmedabad in Gujarat received a significant infrastructure boost of Rs 1,099 crore through the inauguration and foundation laying of various projects. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted that these projects aim to enhance urban living and elevate the city’s global stature. The unveiled projects encompass housing, bridges, gardens, lakes, and auditoriums, among other urban facilities, to enhance civic amenities and expand infrastructure capacity.
The state government’s focus on improving citizens’ lives and urban development was emphasized by Patel during the event. He mentioned the sustained policy direction in urban development in Gujarat, following the launch of the “Urban Development Year” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2005. Patel also noted Ahmedabad’s global recognition, including its status as a World Heritage City, emphasizing the city’s progress towards modern development while preserving its global identity.
Efforts to strengthen infrastructure and enhance public welfare have been central to the government’s agenda, as highlighted by Patel. Notable achievements include numerous road works, storm water and drainage projects, and initiatives to improve the drinking water distribution system in Ahmedabad. Additionally, the city’s progress towards becoming a green city was acknowledged, with significant works completed under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
In the transportation sector, urban mobility projects worth over Rs 2,561 crore have been implemented, including the development of modern public transport networks such as the BRTS and Metro systems. Patel also mentioned the successful provision of homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in Ahmedabad, along with the city’s recognition for sanitation performance. Future plans include upgrading infrastructure to global standards in preparation for events like the Commonwealth Games and the World Police and Fire Games.
