The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has lifted Stage II restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the National Capital Region (NCR) due to improved air quality in Delhi. The decision came after a review of recent air quality data and weather forecasts. Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped to 214 on Wednesday, categorized as ‘Poor’ but showing a significant decrease in pollution levels.
The AQI in Delhi has shown a positive trend, decreasing from 261 on February 16 to 214 on February 18, supported by favorable weather conditions. Forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) suggest that the AQI will likely remain in the ‘Poor’ to ‘Moderate’ range in the upcoming days.
Following the improving air quality trend, the Sub-Committee on GRAP has unanimously decided to revoke Stage II restrictions across the entire NCR. However, Stage I measures will continue to be enforced to prevent any deterioration in air quality. Authorities have instructed implementing agencies to intensify and strictly implement Stage I actions.
The GRAP, which imposes restrictions based on pollution levels, had previously activated Stage II on October 19, 2025, due to increasing AQI levels. Continuous monitoring and vigilance by agencies are emphasized to prevent a resurgence in pollution levels. Citizens are urged to adhere to Stage I guidelines to sustain the progress.
The Sub-Committee will closely monitor the air quality situation, making further decisions based on real-time data and forecasts to ensure environmental safety in the region.
