Badruddin Ajmal, the President of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, stating that Sarma would face defeat in the upcoming Assembly elections and “whimper” post-results. Ajmal, contesting from the Binnakandi Assembly seat, expressed confidence in his party’s strong performance in the April 9 polls. He mentioned health issues limiting his campaign and regretted not being able to visit various constituencies.
Ajmal, in a conversation, expressed concern about his absence affecting candidates’ morale in places he couldn’t visit. Despite this, he believed in his supporters’ hard work leading to victory. He accused the BJP-led government of divisive rhetoric targeting a specific community, particularly the ‘Miyas,’ and vowed to protest against such behavior.
Targeting the Chief Minister directly, Ajmal predicted Sarma’s defeat and criticized his actions towards the minority community. He emphasized that the AIUDF’s campaign would focus on key issues like education, land deeds, political representation, healthcare, NRC, and deep water projects in Assam. Ajmal also highlighted the need for a shift in the political discourse towards developmental priorities.
Ajmal hinted at aligning with Asaduddin Owaisi for the elections, expressing optimism in their collaboration. As parties gear up for the intense competition in the upcoming elections, efforts are being made to mobilize support through various means across Assam. The polling for the 126-member Assembly is set for April 9, with the counting scheduled for May 4.
