For the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), all ten franchises will have Indian captains leading them in the upcoming season. This unique scenario has caught the attention of Jatin Paranjape, a former cricketer and national selector, who believes this season will be particularly interesting from a leadership perspective. Each team will be captained by an Indian player, with individuals like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Axar Patel, Shubman Gill, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Riyan Parag, Rajat Patidar, and Ishan Kishan taking on this significant role.
Paranjape highlighted the diverse range of experience among the captains, emphasizing that this season will be a crucial phase for all of them. Some captains are relatively new to leadership roles, while others have more experience. The former cricketer pointed out that managing responsibility throughout the tournament will be a key challenge for each of them. The IPL opener between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru marks the beginning of this exciting season.
As the tournament unfolds over two months, Paranjape, who is also a co-founder of KheloMore and a member of the BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee, expects the captains to face various tests of leadership. He noted that the ability of these captains to handle pressure, meet expectations, and unite their teams will be closely observed throughout the season. Paranjape believes that this season will not only showcase the players’ skills but also provide a platform to identify potential future leaders for Indian cricket.
