Amelia Kerr played a remarkable innings, scoring an unbeaten 179 off 139 balls to help New Zealand achieve a record chase of 347 against South Africa. This outstanding performance led the White Ferns to victory with a total of 350/8, marking the highest successful run chase in women’s ODI history. Kerr’s calm approach and focus on each over were key factors in her exceptional innings.

Reflecting on her achievement, Kerr expressed her emotions post-match, highlighting the importance of staying present and focused during the game. She credited her partnership with Izzy Gaze for their success, emphasizing the significance of their collaboration in the middle overs. Kerr described the match as a crucial one, noting the importance of securing a 1-1 series tie with her exceptional performance.

Kerr acknowledged that New Zealand’s bowling struggled initially, conceding 346/6 in the first innings. Despite this, the team’s strategy of setting small targets and simplifying the chase helped them stay on track. Kerr emphasized the need to break down the chase into manageable segments to alleviate pressure and make the task seem less daunting.

Looking ahead to the series-deciding third ODI, Kerr identified areas for improvement, particularly in the fielding department. She stressed the significance of enhancing their catching skills to avoid repeating past mistakes. Kerr expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back and showcase a stronger performance in the upcoming matches.
