Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the Congress, claiming they facilitated the entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India by “opening the borders” during their tenure. Shah, speaking in Assam’s Cachar district, promised to identify and deport every illegal Bangladeshi who came in under Congress rule. He accused the Congress of prioritizing vote-bank politics over national security and neglecting border states like Assam. Shah emphasized the BJP government’s commitment to protecting India’s borders and preserving the cultural identity of northeastern states through enhanced border management and anti-migration measures.
During his visit, Shah launched the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP-2) in Nathanpur, Cachar district, near the India-Bangladesh border. The initiative aims to uplift border villages by improving infrastructure, connectivity, livelihood opportunities, and essential services to discourage migration and enhance residents’ quality of life. Shah highlighted that the VVP aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of developing border villages into thriving hubs, ensuring equitable access to facilities across the country. He praised the positive outcomes of the first phase, including enhanced road connectivity, healthcare, education, and employment in border regions, and expressed confidence that VVP-2 would further fortify border security and development.
Affirming the government’s dedication, Shah assured that Assam and the Northeast region would remain focal points for the BJP, receiving special attention for both developmental initiatives and national security concerns.
