Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Lt Governor T.S. Sandhu met to address various issues concerning the national capital, focusing on development and security. Sandhu updated Shah on the progress towards achieving ‘Viksit Delhi 2047’, emphasizing initiatives to tackle pollution, clean the Yamuna river, and enhance transit corridors for sustainable growth and improved quality of life.
During the meeting, Sandhu, as the constitutional head of Delhi, briefed Shah on land, security, and administrative matters. The Lt Governor also highlighted a recent session with experts from the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) regarding the revitalization of city transit routes.
Sandhu shared insights from the SPA presentation, which outlined plans to transform Delhi’s transit corridors into green, pedestrian-friendly, and employment-driven zones operational round the clock. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for urban renewal, aiming to boost tourism, local economy, and job creation.
Acknowledging the need for collaboration among Delhi’s civic bodies, Sandhu expressed support for examining the project’s feasibility and ensuring effective inter-agency coordination. The Lt Governor also met with Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal, to discuss infrastructure challenges in the capital.
In a separate engagement, Sandhu held discussions with Johannes Zutt, Vice President of the World Bank, focusing on leveraging global expertise and forging partnerships in areas like urban development, education, sanitation, and skill enhancement. Emphasizing Delhi’s commitment to sustainable progress, Sandhu reiterated the city’s dedication to enhancing residents’ quality of life in line with PM Modi’s vision.
