Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate the third International Kite Festival organized by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) at Baansera grasslands on Yamuna floodplains near Sarai Kale Khan in New Delhi. The event, scheduled for Friday, will have Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena as the Guest of Honour, along with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in attendance.
DDA Vice-Chairman N. Saravana Kumar mentioned in the event’s invitation that the opening ceremony will occur at Birsa Munda Chowk in Baansera around noon on Friday. The DDA had earlier welcomed citizens to visit the restored grasslands on Yamuna floodplains at Baansera near Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi back in August 2024.
L-G Saxena praised the DDA’s efforts in transforming the area, sharing a video on social media platform X showcasing the journey from degradation to the establishment of a green oasis at Baansera. Inspired by PM Narendra Modi’s vision to restore 2.6 crore hectares of degraded land by 2030, L-G Saxena highlighted the successful restoration of Baansera within 18 months, turning it into a recreational spot and ecological marvel in Delhi.
The Baansera park now features bamboo trees, indigenous flora, water bodies, and recreational amenities like a restaurant and musical fountain, attracting visitors with events such as the Kite Festival, Yoga sessions, and musical evenings. L-G Saxena urged Delhi residents to experience the revived Yamuna floodplain at Baansera, emphasizing the park’s role in enhancing soil health and biodiversity.
